Cherry Creek High School’s replacement begins with a shared vision: to honor a legacy of excellence while creating a campus that reflects the evolving needs of its students and community. As one of the district’s oldest campuses, Cherry Creek High School carries a deep sense of identity, shaped over decades by tradition, achievement, and connection. This project embraces that history and uses it as a foundation to design a forward-looking environment that continues to inspire the next generation of learners.
At the heart of the process is a commitment to collaboration. Through an inclusive and highly engaged design approach, students, faculty, staff, and community members played an active role in shaping the vision for the campus. Their voices informed not only what the new buildings would be, but how they would feel, ensuring the result reflects the values, aspirations, and character that define Cherry Creek High School. This collective input helped establish the guiding priorities which will create spaces that support the success and well-being of every student.
Designing on an active campus required a thoughtful, phased approach that prioritizes continuity, safety, and clarity. Phase I begins with the removal of outdated administrative buildings to make way for a new academic and athletic core. To replace the aging West Building, two new facilities will be built, one dedicated to academics and one to athletics. Together, they establish a more connected and intuitive campus framework while maintaining uninterrupted daily operations for students and staff.
The design reinforces a welcoming and accessible campus experience from the moment of arrival. A new primary entry along Union Avenue creates a clear and inviting front door, supported by improved circulation, reconfigured parking, and enhanced wayfinding throughout the site. These moves not only simplify navigation, but also foster a sense of safety, openness, and belonging, ensuring that every student and visitor feels welcomed and connected.
Across the campus, new and renewed spaces are designed to inspire. Flexible academic environments, integrated indoor and outdoor connections, and thoughtfully organized program areas reflect a commitment to innovation in teaching and learning. These spaces are both beautiful and highly functional, supporting a wide range of educational experiences while reinforcing the district’s standard of excellence. Outdoor areas and connections between buildings further strengthen the campus setting, maximizing the use of the site and encouraging interaction, movement, and community.
While future phases are dependent on additional funding, Phase I is designed to stand on its own, delivering a complete and cohesive environment that embodies the spirit of Cherry Creek High School. Looking ahead, Phase II will extend this vision with additional academic and arts facilities, expanded athletics, and a new pool, further enhancing opportunities for students.
Ultimately, the Cherry Creek High School replacement is more than a modernization effort. It is a reflection of what the community values most. By honoring its history, embracing inclusivity, and designing spaces that elevate learning, the project ensures that Cherry Creek High School continues to exemplify excellence for generations to come.
